ADVANCED DIGITAL SKILLS AS DETERMINANTS OF BUSINESS EDUCATORS’ JOB SECURITY IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
Abstract
This study examined advanced digital skills as determinants of business educators’ job security in tertiary institutions. Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. Two research question were raised and one hypothesis was tested in the study. The population of the study comprised all business educators in tertiary institutions in Southwest, Nigeria. 216 business educators were the respondents for the study. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire (BDSDBEJSQ) designed by the researcher with 4-point rating scale. The instrument went through face and content validation by three experts. The reliability of the instrument was ensured using Cronbach alpha which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.91. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyse the data collected to answer the research question. The research question revealed that business educators in tertiary institutions are rated low on their level of advanced digital skills, with a grand weighted mean and standard deviation of (x̅ =2.42; SD = 0.82). All respondents agreed with the level of job security for business educators in tertiary institutions with a grand weighted mean and standard deviation of (x̅ =3.00; SD = 0.69). The hypothesis was tested using linear regression at 0.05 level of significance. The findings from the hypothesis revealed that advanced digital skills significantly determine business educators’ job security in tertiary institutions (B= 0.636; t181 = 14.27, p = 0.001).Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that advanced digital skills significantly determine the job security of business educators and it was recommended that Institutions should provide training for business educators to inculcate advanced digital skills to their skills in order to navigate through cloud skills, Artificial intelligence tools and cyber security.
